The Netflix Merch Shop transforms favorite shows and movies into stylish, tangible merchandise. From apparel to accessories, each piece connects fans with the stories they love. This project aimed to enhance user experience by integrating a wishlist feature, making shopping more intuitive and engaging.

Project Overview

This project integrates IMDb actor details into Netflix, enhancing the streaming experience with interactive, scene-specific actor information.

  1. Task

    Explore and add a wishlist feature.

  1. Goal

    Improve user satisfaction by enabling them to save and revisit products easily. This enhancement boosts convenience and increases the likelihood of purchases.

  1. Result

    Through detailed task analysis, we broke the user journey into 23 actions and 7 instances of system feedback. These findings guided the design process and helped create a user-centric solution that simplified shopping.

Design Process

To address the wishlist challenge, I used the Double Diamond Framework. This structured approach focused on two stages:

  1. Discovery

    • Conducted Task Analysis and Usability Expert Reviews to identify user needs and existing issues.

    • Analyzed the user journey across key pages: Home, Category, Product, Cart, and Checkout.

  1. Implementation

    • Designed solutions tailored to user needs, prioritizing clarity and convenience.

    • Created high-fidelity prototypes to ensure smooth handoff to engineering teams.

This methodology ensured a seamless integration of the wishlist feature, aligning with user preferences for a better shopping experience.

Research/Usability Expert Review

As a designer, I conducted expert reviews where I analyzed a design to find both its usability problems and strengths. The pages I reviewed are:

Findings & Insights

The Netflix Shop is categorized 'Adhered Low' in design, offers a user-friendly experience with quick loading times.

However, improvements are needed, particularly in typography hierarchy, content consistency, image quality, and responsive layouts.  


Addressing these issues would elevate user satisfaction and usability, ensuring a more polished and engaging interface.

Task Analysis

I chose task analysis because it's a smart and fundamental method in UX design. It helps break down complex tasks into simple steps, giving a clear picture of how users interact with a product, system, or process.


By understanding tasks, defining context, and considering user characteristics, task analysis ensures we create user-friendly designs that meet specific goals effectively.

Next Steps

Evaluating the success ​


To assess the effectiveness of the wishlist feature implementation, I established a performance evaluation framework using the following metrics:

  • 20% rate of task success

  • 80% frequency of errors

  • 50% percentage of task completion

  • Designing a high-fidelity prototypes


    Based on our study, I started creating high-fidelity prototypes. These prototypes are practical designs for our engineering teams, ensuring the proposed improvements are put into action.

Conclusion

This case study aimed to enhance user engagement on the Netflix Merch Shop by adding a wishlist feature. We identified the lack of this feature as a significant issue affecting satisfaction and conversions. Using user-focused methods within the Double Diamond framework, we seamlessly integrated the wishlist feature, positively impacting metrics and elevating user satisfaction.


This enhancement not only filled a crucial gap but also strengthened the shop's connection with users, making it a preferred online shopping destination.
